Why does Reese Witherspoon rom com This Means War have an R rating?
Rom coms may be the most formulaic and least inventive genre in movies. Although this year it was nice seeing rom coms Crazy Stupid Love and Friends with Benefits turn out to be good movies.
So when a rom com gets an R rating, it’s worth taking a closer look at the film. This Means War, an action rom com starring Chris Pine, Reese Witherspoon and Tom Hardy, is the latest romantic comedy to achieve the rating. What crazy thing got it an R rating? Sexual content! SOME sexual content to be specific. What does that mean? Do we see cleavage? Tom Hardy’s butt crack? Who knows what that crazy MPAA found that only humans 17 years and older could handle.
It does give me more hope for the film though. The trailer is actually kind of funny, and an R rating could get guys more likely to see it rather than a PG-13. Especially with Bane and Captain Kirk going at each other. Question: would you rather watch a movie if it’s given an R rating rather than a PG-13 rating? [Deadline via Slashfilm]
