Tom Cruise turns 50 today. Happy birthday Tom! So to celebrate, we all get the trailer for Jack Reacher.

The trailer is largely generic, building up Cruise as a bad ass killer of some kind that’s not to be messed with. Oh, and he loves to drive vintage muscle cars and go fast. Vroom vroom stuff, ya know. Cruise looks in good form here though. He looks good when he’s brutally kicking the crap out of someone.

My favorite Cruise film is still Michael Mann’s Collateral, and for whatever reasons this reminds me of that. I know, they’re not close at all. And this is far more generic, but something about Cruise going crazy on people will do that to you.

Now, fans of the Jack Reacher novels may cry foul and say this is a terrible casting. I had no clue of these books and think Cruise looks like the highlight of whatever this is. Reacher is basically an ex-military guy that’s brought in to find a killer, who happens to be a former military sniper. He parters up with an attractive young defense lawyer and goes all cunning and awesome on the bad guys.
