Watch the teaser trailer for Twilight author Stephenie Meyer’s The Host
When an author has one of their book series hit the big time at the box office producers are going to go after their other properties to cash in too. Or, they really love the stories or something.
Stephenie Meyer, who wrote the Twilight books that those blockbuster movies are based on, has another film adaptation coming out called The Host. It’s being directed and written by Gattaca and In Time writer/director Andrew Niccol and has Saoirse Ronan in the lead role. That’s a nice collection of talent.
As you can see by the teaser trailer, it’s pretty melodramatic and features some neat Tron-style music. In case you’re wondering, the song is apparently They Came From the Blue by Riptide Music.
But what the hell is it about? It’s about an alien race called Souls that takes over the bodies and minds of human beings. Melanie (Ronan) is one of the humans that has her mind taken over by a Soul named Wanderer. Another Soul named The Seeker (Diane Kruger) takes over her body. Once in her mind, Wanderer finds herself struggling with Melanie’s emotions and memories and starts to feel for Melanie’s loved ones. She then sets out to find out if they’re alive.
Sounds complicated? It kinda is. I’m interested to find out how Niccol will translate this in an easy way for audiences to digest. It does have potential to be a huge hit, but it also has potential to be a terrible disaster.
