Today, we were blessed with something special. Studio Ghibli, world famous animation house behind stuff like Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and many, many more has released its first live action project onto the Internets.
It’s called Giant God Warrior Appears in Tokyo and it’s in Japanese and doesn’t have any English captions or anything, so I have no clue what’s going on in any detailed form. But what I see is pretty amazing and epic. It’s a giant creature, which was designed by Hayao Miyazaki himself, tearing up Tokyo with a weird cannon tongue.
We don’t really know much about it other than that, however. Is this a sign that Studio Ghibli is going to make some live action projects? It would be like if Pixar made a live action movie, although honestly – John Carter was the closest they got. Their famed brain trust even worked on the story for John Carter, but anyway.
This short is awesome and you should watch it. Studio Ghibli’s next film is set to release in 2013 and is called The Wind is Rising. [via Badass Digest]
