Watch how IMAX theaters are preparing for The Dark Knight Rises
Everything about IMAX is big. The screen is big, the sound is big and even the cameras used to shoot the footage are huge. But did you know that the projector is freaking gigantic as well?
Oh, and here’s the kicker: at two hours and 45 minutes, the Dark Knight Rises is one of the longest films to debut in the IMAX format. And because just about an hour of the film is shot with IMAX cameras, the movie is literally huge. The completed reels will weigh in at about 600 lbs. Yes, that’s more than three full-grown men.
And let me show you the pain of projectionists, and one of the reasons theaters are switching to digital: the film will be delivered in 50 reels and take 10 – 12 hours to piece together. Holy filmmaker, Batman. If you decide to watch The Dark Knight Rises in IMAX, please just sit back and appreciate all the hard work that went into it first. [via /Film]
