Watch: Disney wants to clone human faces for better animatronics for theme parks

When you go to a Disney theme park, one of the things that stand out are the audio-animatronics. No one is better at Disney than making robots that seem like humans. And boy, can they be creepy. Imagine being stuck on Pirates of the Caribbean. All. Night. Long.

Disney isn’t one to rest on their laurels though. They’ve been working and researching better ways to make awesome robots. This is one of those ways. They are cloning faces and using a synthetic skin. They want to figure out the best way skin moves when the muscles underneath do their thing. And from this example, it looks like they’ve mostly figured it out. Mercifully, they’ve closed the eyes on this thing so that people can make it through the video without gagging thinking about our robot overlord future.

Oh, and I am so ready for an enhanced version of Pirates. Yoho, me mateys yoho!
