Warner Bros has a Superman problem. They don’t understand the character, and based on everything they do it seems like they actively dislike him. That’s a damn shame for, well, everyone, because Superman is a character that stands for truth and justice and just being a decent person. He is hope personified.

Collider is reporting that WB’s top choice to make Man of Steel 2 is Matthew Vaughn, the celebrated filmmaker behind Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class and Kingsman. He understands comic books, he understands character and he understands fun. His movies are filled with fun.

Now, talks are still early. There’s a good chance Vaughn says no, but WB wants him to make Superman. And if he doesn’t they want him to make some kind of DCEU movie.

Does Vaughn even want to make a superman movie? Well, he pitched Warner Bros on a Superman movie way back when WB was figuring out that they needed to do something with Superman. Warner Bros declined his pitch though, instead going with the combination of Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder.

Just before Man of Steel entered production, Vaughn said this:

“I think that’s the one thing not to do with Superman, trying to do the serious The Dark Knight version. Superman is about color and fun, or it should be, for me.”

Warner Bros went on and did that one thing, so that’s something.

I hope this happens. Please, let this happen. Give me a reason to have hope in a Superman movie again, please. [Collider]
