There’s going to be a movie about Nicolas Cage’s stolen Action Comics No. 1 comic from the creators of Reno 911!
In 2000, Nicolas Cage had something very valuable from him stolen. It was the first appearance of Superman in a comic book. That comic book is Action Comics No. 1. For 11 years the comic went missing, until in 2011 when it was found in an abandoned storage locker.
Now Hollywood is going to tell that story. Lionsgate has greenlit the film, called Action No. 1, and it will be written by Reno 911! creators Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon. The duo will also be producing. It’s going to be about a gang of geeks that attempt to steal the comic from Nic Cage.
The script was written with Nic Cage in mind to play himself, but it looks like he’s unlikely to star, according to THR. I’m guessing it re-opens old wounds. Having one of the most famous comic books stolen from you isn’t a good feeling, especially if you’re a huge fan like Cage is.
The question here is whether that role is Cage playing himself or Cage playing some guy. I’d hope its the former because it would be more comedic. The latter wouldn’t be too bad, but definitely not as effective. Look at Fanboys, a movie about Star Wars fans attempt to sneak into George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch to see The Phantom Menace. [THR]
