The Harry Potter theme park is coming to California

One of the more underrated theme parks in the world is the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It’s an immensely accurate recreation of both Hogwarts Castle and Hogsmeade Village. Not only that, but all the food that appears in the movie is re-created for the park, like butter beer.

And of course, it has one of the better rides in the world: Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. It’s quite a place, especially if you like the movies. Emma Watson, who plays Hermione, said the park was pretty much like being on set when she visited it.

The park is so popular that it’s drawn over 7 million people inside its gates. The park is connected to Universal Studios Florida in its original location, but Warner Bros. was actually working with Disney on a deal for the park. The Universal stood up and negotiated a deal to carry the park.

The problem may be that the Harry Potter theme park is huge. It needs a lot of space, and Universal Studios Hollywood doesn’t have that much space. Don’t be surprised if they sacrifice some rides for this enormous undertaking. The park is set to open in 2015. [WSJ and LA Times via IGN]
