The Amazing Spider-Man breaks Tuesday opening box office record; trilogy plans announced

The Amazing Spider-Man is now the holder of the biggest Tuesday opening of all time. It webbed it’s way to $35 million. Sony is predicting something in the range of $100 – $120 million for the six-day weekend, which means the film is likely to make back it’s budget (estimated at somewhere around $250 million).

This also means that Sony can move forward with a sequel. In fact, they’re moving forward with two sequels. And this trilogy is going to be based around Peter Parker’s parents and their disappearance. It seems as if everything will stem from that.

Here’s what The Amazing Spider-Man’s Facebook page said earlier today:

It’s finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first installment in a movie trilogy that will explore how our fave hero’s journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents.

Are you ready for more Spider-Man? I certainly am. The movie was very enjoyable and does some things better than the first Spider-Man film (action, smartass Spidey, etc). [Facebook via Daily Blam]
