South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone say they’ll make a Book of Mormon movie
The Book of Mormon absolutely took Broadway by storm and racked up a bunch of Tony Awards, so it’s no surprise that there’s interest in a film version.
It’s also no surprise that Trey Parker and Matt Stone would make a film version. After all, the did make the South Park movie, Team America, Basketball and Orgazmo.
Legendary producer Scott Rudin (The Social Network, No Country For Old Men) produced both Team America and South Park and helped bring Book of Mormon to Broadway so it would make sense he would return to the film version.
The bad news? It may not come for a couple years. The film starts a national tour in Denver next year and they’ll do a movie if that’s successful. It’s going to be successful.
Here’s what Matt Stone had to say:
We want to do it some day. The great thing is, a lot of Broadway teams would have to go team up with a Hollywood producer and bring on a Hollywood director, but Trey’s a director and Scott’s a great producer. We’ve all made movies. So it’s kind of cool, it can stay in the same family.
I love all the work these guys do, and desperately want to see Book of Mormon. It helps that Stone and Parker have done good jobs with their previous film musicals. Plus, when’s the last time there was a good musical? [EW]
