Scarlett Johansson proved that she could kick ass in Iron Man 2. Then people forgot about it and she proved it again in The Avengers. She’ll suit up again as the kick-ass Black Widow in Captain America: The Winter Soldier in early 2014.
And now THR’s Heat Vision blog is reporting that the actress will kick ass for Luc Besson in a movie called Lucy. Besson is best known for movies The Fifth Element and La Femme Nikita, both of which involved kick ass females beating the crap out of people.
Besson wrote the script for the film (he also wrote Liam Neeson’s Taken) and it’s about a woman (Johansson) who is forced to become a drug mule. The drug instead enters her system and turns her into an ass-kicking machine. She also has some cool powers like instant learning, moving things with her mind and not feeling pain like normal people.
Yeah, Scarlett Johansson is going to play a female Hulk with a dash of Magneto. This is what Besson does best. Action movies that involve a tinge of crime featuring strong female characters. He directed The Professional, the aforementioned The Fifth Element and La Femme Nikita and also directed Joan of Arc.
I’m pretty stoked for this, honestly. I’m a big fan of Johansson and the world really needs more kick-ass female characters. Katniss and Lara Croft honestly aren’t enough. Plus, Johansson is an A-level talent. As an added bonus: if this movie does well it gives Warner Bros. more incentive to go through with their Wonder Woman movie. [Heat Vision]
