Sacha Baron Cohen has been banned from the Oscars (Updated: maybe not)
UPDATE: So, THR is reporting that he wasn’t barred from this year’s Oscars. Instead, the Academy is biding their time to see what he wants to do. Either way, this has turned into free publicity for The Dictator, so whatever the Academy attempted to do backfired.
A couple days ago there were rumors that funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen would attend the Oscars as his character from The Dictator. This, of course, would be to promote the upcoming film and make people laugh. They go hand in hand of course. And hey, Cohen could be like film’s Lady Gaga.
The Academy isn’t standing for it, according to Deadline they just revoked the stars tickets even though he’s a star of one of the Best Picture nominees (HUGO). And insider tells Deadline that unless the Academy is assured that he won’t pull anything they will not admit him into the show. Somehow, I’m sure if Cohen minds this at all. A part of him may want to go and celebrate the best movie he’s ever been in, but a part may relish this. I’m just guessing though. [Deadline]
