Rumor: Marvel’s next movie franchise is Black Panther
Marvel has Thor 2, Iron Man 3 and Captain America 2 hitting in the next couple years. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has also said that they have two unannounced films in development as well. Most people thought these were Ant Man and The Avengers 2, but it looks like it’s going to be Black Panther.
Entertainment Weekly sources inside Disney and Marvel say it’s not true, but the studio has no comment, so just in case: let’s run over why Black Panther makes sense.
Black Panther is a hero that’s also the leader of a fictional African nation. He’s also considered to be the first major black superhero and was widely known for being in The Avengers. In Iron Man 2, Black Panther is hinted to live in the Marvel film universe in this photo:
Finally, vibranium, the material used to make Captain America’s shield, is found in Wakanda (the nation Black Panther is the leader of). Mark Bailey was hired to write a script about a year ago and The Playlist has heard that there could be a tease for Black Panther attached to the sequel to Captain America.
A Black Panther film wouldn’t hit till at least 2015 if it were true, however. Ant Man is still a more likely possibility. [Latino Review via The Playlist]
