RIP Beastie Boys and Oscilloscope Laboratories co-founder Adam Yauch

Some sad news today. Rolling Stone is reporting that Beastie Boys and Oscilloscope Laboratories co-founder Adam Yauch has passed away.

He was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 and has been battling the disease ever since. In the movie world, Yauch is known for Oscilloscope Laboratories, which started as a recording studio and kinda evolved into an independent film studio.

Oscilloscope is known for taking chances and distributing independent cinema with strong content. Films like We Need to Talk About Kevin, Bellflower, Dear Zachary, The Messenger, Burma VJ, The Other F Word, Chasing Ice and Hello, I Must Be Going.

He was a pretty visionary guy, and not only in music. He launched filmmaking talent and even helped create something called The Circle of Trust, which allowed Oscilloscope fans to receive their next 10 DVDs, which were made sans plastic. He also directed a short film called Fight For Your Right (Revisited). You can watch it below. It was his final project. [Rolling Stone via Movies.com]
