Peter Jackson wants to turn The Hobbit into a trilogy

Peter Jackson struck gold with The Lord of the Rings trilogy and now it looks like he wants to give Middle Earth yet another trilogy to water over.

According to THR, Jackson and his crew have gone to Warner Bros and are in deep talks to turn the two-film Hobbit saga into a trilogy. Apparently, Jackson wants to shoot more and believes he can make the tale even better. I assume this is because the second film is so bloated that splitting it into two would make it better narratively.

Shooting would go on next summer and the third part would release in 2014, according to THR’s sources. Warner Bros. is on board as long as it makes sense financially, as they must secure new contracts with actors, crew, etc and locations must be arranged. They’d also have to reinforce their rights to The Hobbit property.

I’m down for an extra Hobbit film if it meant all three were better for it. I’d rather have a clean and smooth film than a bloated one that suffered for it (The Dark Knight Rises). [THR]
