Michel Gondry, famed director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, is returning to his French roots with his latest movie Moon Indigo. And it looks like a trip.
The film follows a loving couple that’s thrown upside down when the wife, played by Audrey Tautou, gets a water lily stuck in her lung. So the husband, played by Romain Duris, has to save her. That’s crazy-sounding enough, but when you combine it with the insane visuals it becomes too much.
But perhaps it’s too much in a good way. This thing looks like bathing your face in milk. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but it looks immensely refreshing. Until the milk dries and everything starts getting sticky and smelly.
ANYWAY, this movie looks immense. It’s nice to finally get an official English trailer so we know what they’re saying. Sure, it’s subtitled English but I’d rather have subtitles than dubbing. You get to see the natural performances of the actors that way and it preserves the mood and tone of the film.
Moon Indigo releases in Belgium and France on April 24. Hopefully we see a United States release by the end of the year.
