Mick Jagger and Brian Grazer are going to produce a James Brown biopic directed by The Help’s Tate Taylor

Brian Grazer has been trying to get a James Brown biopic off the ground for about the last decade. And why not? Brown went from poverty to the Godfather of Soul! It’s a terrific story that really should be told. And it’s about to happen. Grazer has teamed up with Mick Jagger, yes that Mick Jagger, to produce the movie. The Help’s Tate Taylor will direct.

And that’s a splendid choice. Taylor showed with The Help that he can faithfully recreate the past while coaxing his actors into amazing performances. The James Brown biopic will need that. But who can play Brown? Eddie Murphy has previously said that he’s wanted the role, but that was in reference to Spike Lee’s Brown biopic — not Taylor’s.

Murphy actually could be great. Other than him, I’m having a hard time thinking of someone who would be absolutely perfect for the role, but whatever right? Taylor was able to successfully cast The Help with no problem so this should be like eating coffee cake with coffee.

Brown was actively involved in the development of this film before his death too, so this would likely be the ultimate biopic of the legend. Kinda like Sony’s Aaron Sorkin-written Steve Jobs movie versus Ashton Kutcher’s Steve Jobs movie. [Deadline via /Film]
