Marvel Studios says there are two movies they haven’t announced yet
When Marvel formed their own studio and announced that they would be producing an Iron Man movie I’m not sure how many people would be confident that they would be a success. Then Iron Man actually became a success. And Thor was a success. And Captain America was a success. And now The Avengers has topped $1 billion worldwide at the box office.
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige celebrated by speaking with Bloomberg and he’s said something very interesting:
We want to do two films a year. Avengers is our only film this year, but in a week and a half we begin filming Iron Man 3. By the end of the summer we’ll be working on the next Thor film, early next year the next Captain America film. Those are the three we’ve announced so far; we’ve got two beyond that that we haven’t announced yet, but we’re working on.
What could those two other films be? It’s very likely one is The Avengers 2, even though Disney already said that it’s in the works. The other one though? It could be one of three things: a Doctor Strange film, Guardians of the Galaxy or Ant-Man. The most likely scenario is Ant-Man, which has Scott Pilgrim director Edgar Wright attached to write and direct.
Wright has The World’s End set to start production at the end of the year and release in Spring 2013, but that still leaves him time to begin Ant-Man in the second half of next year, which would allow the film to be ready for an early/mid 2014 release. Here’s Marvel’s release schedule in the next couple years:
- May 3 2013 – Iron Man 3
- November 15 2013 – Thor 2
- April 4 2014 – Captain America 2
- May 16 2014 – Untitled Marvel Movie (Ant-Man?)
- 2015 – The Avengers 2?
Oh, and let’s not forget that Ant-Man has been the most talked about and hinted project that Marvel hasn’t announced yet. But hey, Comic-Con is coming up soon. Hopefully we’ll find out then. You can watch the Bloomberg interview with Feige below. [Bloomberg via /Film]
