Man causes panic at Dark Knight Rises showing, gets beaten up with broom
After the tragic theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado people are a wee bit nervous when they see The Dark Knight Rises. I definitely was. I kept scanning the exit doors and stared down everyone who dared leave the theater during the showing.
So you’re going to get people who are more prone to panicking or figuring out what they’d do if an incident were to happen. And in Florida, and incident happened. 45-year-old David Escamillo was seated in the rear of his theater in a showing of The Dark Knight Rises until he got up and started pacing around the aisles.
He got into a verbal fight with another moviegoer and left the theater. When he came back he was wearing black gloves and stormed to the back of the theater and yelled “This is it!” This caused a panic as over 100 people stormed out of the theater.
One patron left the theater and grabbed a broom and dustpan, used for cleaning the trash you leave in the theater, and waited for Escamillo. When he saw him, he smacked the broom across the back of Escamillo and two other patrons teamed up with him to pin the crazy to the staircase. They said his breath smelled like alcohol. Batman would be proud.
He was eventually arrested once police officers arrived on the scene. There were no shots fired, but the Lex Luthor look-a-like (seriously) had a warrant out for battery and had caused public disturbances before. [CBS Miami via FilmDrunk]
