Life of Pi director Ang Lee says Cleopatra with Angelina Jolie “feels right”

Ang Lee is getting a lot of praise for his work on Life of Pi. And rightly so! He took what many considered to be an unfilmable movie and actually made it and delivered something beautiful. Of course, he’s been courted for his next project. If there’s one thing about Lee is that he loves to diversify.

He’s made Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, he’s made The Hulk, he’s made Brokeback Mountain, a comedy about Woodstock and now a sea adventure. A movie about Cleopatra seems like it would fit in, and he thinks so as well.

“I’m about to read the script. It just feels right to me after all the other types of films I’ve done. What does it have in common with any of them? They’re all totally different! That’s what makes this perfect.”

Cleopatra was originally a project that David Fincher was attached to, but he dropped out. That left Angelina Jolie, producer Scott Rudin and screenwriter Brian Helgeland pitching the film to directors like James Cameron and Paul Greengrass.

It’s likely that they’ve found their director. He just has to unwind from the grind of awards season and then, maybe, he can get his agent working on a deal for Cleopatra. [THR via The Playlist]
