Joe Carnahan And Frank Grillo Are Going To ‘Reimagine’ THE RAID
Um, sure?

The Raid, alongside Mad Max: Fury Road and John Wick, is one of the best action films of this decade. However, the movie was made in Indonesia so, of course, it needs a Hollywood remake. Today, The Grey director Joe Carnahan and actor Frank Grillo dropped a little video announcing that they were going to “reimagine” The Raid.

They’re enjoying The Raid, talking about what they would do. They wouldn’t have that many SWAT members in the building in the first place. Instead, it would be a smaller force, six or seven guys. The action would have to be incredible, creative and unlike what other people have seen.

This, of course, pissed off a lot of people. Why remake something so perfect? And if you want an English-language version, there’s always Dredd. That’s not exactly a remake, but the ideas are similar enough where you could get your fix.

So Carnahan took to Twitter to assure people they have something special in mind.

I believe him. Carnahan doesn’t half-ass shit, he’s not going to soullessly make a movie for the cash. If he’s going to do something, he’s going to goddamn do it. He also happens to be one of the more creative action directors out there, so taking on something like The Raid is interesting.

Of course, both of them stress that they’re reimagining the movie, not remaking it. That just tells us that you shouldn’t expect something beat-by-beat. Instead, you should expect an action movie about a SWAT team that has to go into a gang-controlled building and solve a problem. I’m cool with that, both because of the creative team and because that’s an evergreen idea.

One thing is definitely for sure: Dredd fans are going to be sad.
