Jim Carrey drops out of Dumb and Dumber sequel because of lack of studio interest
When speculation about the Dumb and Dumber sequel came out some people were happy and some people moaned. Why would they revisit a movie that’s over 10 years old? Well, it looks like Warner Bros and New Line aren’t too interested in the idea either.
This has caused star Jim Carrey to drop out of the project. Now, the original plan by the Farrelly Brothers was to return and have Carrey and Jeff Daniels take their roles back and they would make funny jokes and everything would be awesome. Without Carrey, the project is unlikely to get off the ground.
It’s a shame because Jeff Daniels’ profile is about to get larger thanks to Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom on HBO. Here’s what Bobby Farrelly originally said about the potential sequel, which makes me think it’s dead in the water.
[Dumb and Dumber] has run a bunch of times on TV in the states, and kids will come up and they’ll be able to quote lines from that – lines that I’ve long forgotten. If we could get those two guys back together, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels that might be a worthwhile sequel – and that ball is in motion. We’re starting to think about what those two dimwits would be doing twenty-years later in life, and hopefully we’ll be able to come up with something worthy of a sequel.
Honestly, this is all for the better. No need to soil Dumb and Dumber with a sequel no one really wants. For once, the studios are on the side of the people. [ET Online via /Film]
