Jeff Bridges still wants to make The Giver
Jeff Bridges is awesome. When he genuinely is excited about something you have to know there’s something good about it. And now he’s re-acquired the rights to make a movie based on a book The Giver.
Bridges and producer Nikki Silver have re-acquired the rights to the Lois Lowry young adult novel. Bridges will star as the aging Giver and it’s to be scripted by House of Sand and Fog writer Vadim Perelman.
The story revolves around a young boy who lives in a utopian society where the concepts of war and poverty don’t exist. When he reaches 12 he’s chosen to take over the role of the Giver, who is the sole member of the community that remembers the past and trains under the current Giver, Jeff Bridges. I haven’t read the book, but I’ve heard good things and it sounds fantastic.
Silver and Bridges tried to make the movie a while ago, but it got stuck and Warner Bros. got the rights. But now Bridges has them back! Hopefully he succeeds this time. [Slashfilm]
