Is Marvel’s new superhero franchise Ant Man?

Did you watch Thor? In that movie, after SHIELD takes all of Natalie Portman’s stuff her associate Eric Selvig says that he traded emails with one of his old associates who also had a run-in with SHIELD.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige said that friend was Hank Pym, also known as Ant Man in the Marvel universe.

Scott Pilgrim and Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright, on Saturday, tweeted the following:

That is very obviously a reference to Ant Man. The problem with Ant Man though is that he’s kind of lame.

His powers include changing his size so he can get giant or tiny and controlling ants with a helmet. Yeah, it doesn’t sound too exciting but Ant Man was one of the founding members of The Avengers, and guess which movie just dominated the box office?

Wright’s take on Ant Man is kind of interesting and comes across like Captain America. Basically, the film would first follow Hank Pym in the 1960s as Ant Man and then flash forward to his successor Scott Lang in modern day, who would partner with Pym.

It makes sense, especially if Selvig refers to Pym as an old associate. There’s no guarantee Ant Man suits up for The Avengers 2 however, Wright told MTV News in 2010 that Feige simply wanted Ant Man to be a good movie and didn’t have to fit into The Avengers timeline, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t expect Pym or Ant Man references in Iron Man 3, Thor 2 and Captain America 2.

Are you down with Ant Man? Honestly, Ant Man sounds way too goofy for the silver screen. If anyone can do goofy though, it’s Edgar Wright.
