Illumination Entertainment, the creators of Despicable Me and The Lorax, are working on a Woody Woodpecker film
Illumination Entertainment broke onto the scene with their lovely animated film Despicable Me. Universal loved it so much they’re dedicating a ride at Universal Studios to the film. Then Illumination cemented itself as one of the better animation studios with box office smash The Lorax.
Now they’re, along with Universal, making a Woody Woodpecker film with a script from Beavis and Butthead and King of the Hill writers John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky. The duo were also the pair behind the Will Ferrell and Jon Heder ice skating comedy Blades of Glory.
Woodpecker first appeared in 1940 and would do well with a bit of a re-invention. The one negative is that it could turn out like that Alvin and the Chipmunks reboot. That … would be a travesty. Luckily, Illumination has showed with The Lorax that they can honor worlds created by others and that they take their storytelling seriously. [Deadline]
