Here’s the plot for Guillermo del Toro’s monsters vs robots film Pacific Rim

Do we really need a plot for a movie that’s about monsters fighting giant robots? It turns out we do, otherwise we could be getting Transformers. Ugh, Transformers.

Anyway, Guillermo del Toro’s next movie has finally gotten a plot synopsis from Warner Bros. and it’s likely that the movie will get something of a coming-out party at Comic Con in a couple of months (along with Man of Steel).

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

The film also stars Idris Elba and Charlie Day and is expected to come out July 12, 2013. It sounds pretty good, sounds like a neat idea. But really, the movie is pretty much going to be about the giant robots vs the monsters. Knowing del Toro’s films often have spectacular character designs and awesome special effects this movie looks to be a treat for the eyes. Hopefully he can get on that Haunted Mansion film when he’s done with this. [/Film]
