HBO announces then quickly cancels Fox News Roger Ailes film
Well, sometimes HBO gets things wrong. Or they just get scared and back away. The network that likes to do things its own way seems to be running away.
Earlier, they announced that they were going to make one of their political films about Fox News’ Roger Ailes. Now, this wasn’t a simple movie about his life and how he came to run the most popular news network in America. No no, this was a pure hit job. The film was going to make Ailes look like a megalomaniac and Fox News look like the mafia.
It was essentially going to show how Ailes uses the network as a way to push his personal agenda rather than the news. Agree or disagree with the view, it’s a bold choice.
But no, the Associated Press reports that HBO has shelved the film barely 24 hours later. Why? It’s because they feel it’s not fair. You see, HBO and CNN (Fox’s competitor) are sister companies because they’re both owned by Time Warner. So really, it’s not a fair thing to do.
Or, they just don’t want to be attacked by conservative Americans after already putting George Bush’s head on stake. [AP via AV Club]
