Goblet of Fire’s Patrick Doyle scoring Pixar’s Brave
It really seems that Pixar is intent on changing things up with their next film. It’s their first fairy tale, it’s got a female lead and now they’re not going with Randy Newman or Michael Giacchino to score the film. Instead, they’ve opted for Patrick Doyle.
Doyle was the man, two time Oscar nominated man, behind the score of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and more recently Thor. Doyle has been preparing by listening to Gaelic psalm singing.
“I want to make it accessible but to honour the Celtic traditions if I can,” Doyle also said about his overall approach. “It’s a real fable set in Scotland. I could possibly use the bagpipes as a drone or something that gives atmosphere, but I will resist instantly using them until I see what’s going on…they are extremely loud.”
Sounds fantastic.. or hopefully it will sound fantastic. It’s nice to see Pixar is still embracing new blood, just like when they brought in Brad Bird for The Incredibles, when they’ve been steeped in sequels recently (Cars 2, Toy Story 4 rumors, Monster’s Universe in the works).
