I think its safe to say this movie is going to be one of the more anticipated films of 2012. And now it get’s a date right square in the middle of Oscar season: October 19, 2012.

The film is directed by Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer and has a pretty amazing cast: Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone and Giovanni Ribisi.

It takes place in 1940 Los Angeles and focuses on the LAPD and their quest to take down mobster Mickey Cohen, played by Penn.

It says something that Warner Bros. is confident enough in the film to date it in Oscar season. They obviously feel like it’s going to be much better than what any of us anticipated. Let’s just hope it lives up to the hype. [Deadline]
