This looks like a much better version of Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo. I don’t think that’s such a bad thing either, because this looks rather charming. Sure, a lot of that happens to be the fast-talking action of Woody Allen, but that’s not a bad thing either.
In fact, this is the first movie that Allen is in but hasn’t directed in quite a while. And that’s kind of refreshing, even though this movie feels like an Allen movie. It seems to have the same tone as something like Midnight in Paris, which is probably why he agreed to take this role on.
Allen does look to be well on form here as well. He is just way too good at delivering those one-liners.
However, it’s written and directed by John Turturro. And it seems like he’s written in a dream scenario for himself. A threesome with both Sharon Stone and Sofia Vergara? I’m wondering if his character will decide to fall in love with the other girl in the trailer and have to turn those two down, because it’s the only thing that would make sense and not feel like a writer-director taking advantage.
Either way, this looks rather quirky and charming. Fading Gigolo is set to debut at the Toronto International Film Festival later this year, and we’ll likely see it debut in theaters before the end of the year.
