When it was announced that Brett Ratner would host the Oscars we expressed some hope that he would do a good job.

After all, the Rush Hour movies make people laugh and Horrible Bosses, a movie he produced, is funny. Now, that hope could turn into: holy shit the Oscars could be really good this year.

Ratner has approached one person to host the Oscars: Eddie Murphy.

Now, if we get classic Eddie Murphy this is going to be pretty awesome. Murphy is still funny, despite what his medley of kid movies tell you. In fact, it would be pretty good timing for him. He’s going back to his comedy roots with Tower Heist, directed by Ratner, and if he were to host the Oscars? Can anyone say “career resurgence?”

Murphy’s agency thinks it would be a real coup for him to host and he’s showing strong interest. He also has Saturday Night Live experience in front of large audiences and don’t forget he’s known all around the world.

It’s the best option, other than getting Billy Chrystal back. Make it happen. Please. [Deadline]
