Dexter’s Laboratory and Hotel Transylvania director Genndy Tartakovsky to direct Popeye film
I want you to get familiar with Genndy Tartakovsky. He’s primarily known for his Cartoon Network animated TV shows Dexter’s Laboratory and Samurai Jack, but he’s going to be known for big budget animated features soon enough.
He’s got Hotel Transylvania coming out this September, and it seems like Sony is incredibly happy with it as they’ve enlisted him to make a Popeye movie for them. No, not live action. It’ll be animated.
It’s not going to come out anytime soon, however, as Tartakovsky has to first finish up Transylvania and then is going to work on a Samurai Jack film for Warner Bros. After that, years down the road, we’ll finally see Popeye return to the big screen. What could this film be about? Will it be awesome? What’s his vision? We don’t know yet, but Tartakovsky is a strong talent so it’ll be worth watching out for. [Variety via The Playlist]
