DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES’ Matt Reeves To Direct THE BATMAN
From Apes to Batman

Once Ben Affleck declined to direct The Batman, Warner Bros scrambled to find a replacement. There have been some names, with reports emerging that a final three include Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Matt Reeves, Ridley Scott and Don’t Breathe’s Fede Alvarez.

The Hollywood Reporter now says that Reeves is the choice, he had a flurry of conversations with Warner Bros today. However, while the offer is out to Reeves and they’re in talks to seal the deal, Scott and Alvarez “remain in the wings” in case anything goes wrong. Yes, Ridley Scott wants to direct a Batman movie.

Reeves is a good choice for Batman. As he proved with Planet of the Apes, he knows how to take a big budget movie and imbue it with smarts. He knows how to handle character, testing and stretching them until they break and you feel it. Look at how he’s handled the story of Caesar in Dawn.

I am a little worried about the future of the Planet of the Apes movies, largely because Reeves gets it so well that it’s hard to imagine anyone else coming in and delivering in the same way. The script is getting a total overhaul, so you can throw out that Arkham-style story Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns were working on. [THR]
