Comic-Con: Stephanie Meyer and Andrew Niccol unveiled the first footage from The Host
After the lackluster Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 panel concluded (seriously, it was just the actors talking about how much they love each other) series author told fans to wait for a special surprise.
She called out her new BFF Andrew Niccol and together they unveiled the first footage from the film The Host. It’s about this race that comes in and takes over the bodies of human beings. The film is centered around a being called Wanderer and her internal struggle with her host Melanie.
The film certainly looks like a science fiction film from Niccol, but it was confusing as hell. Of course, the footage was just a collection of clips so there’s no narrative string at all but the individual scenes were kind of boring and didn’t make a lot of sense to someone who didn’t read the books.
There was a neat-o truck/helicopter chase scene at the end that was quite exciting. It sure would have looked more exciting had it made sense.
It did do one interesting thing: it cleared up how the internal struggle would work. Melanie’s voice is basically a voice over that sounds a bit hollow, like she’s screaming from the bottom of a well. It works quite well, but overall it was a bit lackluster.
