Cirque du Soleil will perform at the Oscars
Be honest. A lot of those Oscar acts can get downright boring. Sure, the opening monologues tend to be fun, and the various celebrity jokes are funny – but those musical acts are like getting a root canal.
It’s not only because they’re songs no one has ever heard of, but the artists who play them (and win them) are barely recognizable half the time. This year though, the Academy is going all out to try to entertain you. First, they brought it Eddie Murphy Billy Crystal. Um, OK, never mind. Well, they asked Cirque du Soleil to perform and they will!
It will be the largest single act Cirque will ever perform and the second time the group will perform at the Oscars. There will be more than 50 Cirque international artist working in this act, which will be scored by composer Danny Elfman. Cirque has worked with Elfman before, on an act called IRIS, A Journey through the World of Cinema.
We’re one step closer to a brilliant Oscar telecast this year. Last year, well, ugh. Not only were the hosts terrible (sorry Anne Hathaway and James Franco supporters), but the wrong movie won all the awards (The Social Network was easily the best film of the year). This year we have a solid host, some nice entertainment and will hopefully watch The Help, rather than The Artist, take home the awards. The 84th Annual Academy Awards take place on February 26, 2012 [via press release]
