Let’s take a quick look at the cast for Christopher Nolan’s next film Interstellar: Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine and Bill Irwin. Now add to that Casey Affleck, who told Elle that he would be joining the Nolan film.
The younger Affleck just may be a better actor than his older brother, with standout performances in movies like Gone Baby Gone, The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford and The Killer Inside Me.
What’s interesting is that Affleck usually does smaller movies. He avoid the big tentpoles, other than the Ocean’s trilogy. So it’s interesting to see him take a role in what’s sure to be a huge, huge movie. It’s also great for him, frankly.
Although he was part of Ocean’s, he didn’t have a chance to fully expose himself. It wasn’t like he was the star or got to showcase his acting chops like he did in some of his smaller films. However, there’s a real chance that Interstellar could propel him to bigger and better projects.
For example, Tom Hardy started getting a lot of attention after Inception. Just being in something as big as a Nolan movie is sure to get you recognized, so in that aspect this is wonderful for the younger Affleck.
It’s also wonderful for the film. This is one of the better casts we’ll see next year. Interstellar will come out on November 7, 2014. [Elle]
