All right, Parks and Rec fans – you need to prepare for the possibility of Chris Pratt becoming a huge movie star. I’m serious! After showing the world he’s funny in Parks and Rec and The Five-Year Engagement, Pratt did Moneyball and Zero Dark Thirty and showed he could act.
Now, according to Deadline, he’s going to get the shot to show that he can lead a movie. That movie is Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, where he’ll play Peter Quill, also known as Star Lord. Quill is an astronaut that eventually meets up with talking raccoons and tree men and leads them to protect the solar system. And stuff.
Pratt is perfect because he’s not only funny but, as he showed in Zero Dark Thirty, he can be a tough guy as well. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was the original choice, but he had other stuff to do. Boo. Pratt did beat out Chuck’s Zack Levi, Cloud Atlas’ Jim Sturgess and Lee Pace.
Director James Gunn is going for an action comedy tone with this film, so that might be right in Pratt’s wheelhouse. Of course, he’ll also have to bulk up for this one. The film is due to hit theaters on August 1, 2014. And there are rumors that at the end of Iron Man 3 either the Guardians of the Galaxy will make an appearance or Quill will meet up with Stark. Either way, Guardians of the Galaxy is shaping up nicely. [Deadline]
