Bridesmaids sucker punched everyone in the get and screamed: beautiful women can do raunchy comedy too! And it can make money while doing it! I’ll stop yelling now! Now we’re going to be seeing Hollywood taking a lot of chances on female comedies, and that’s a good thing.

For instance, writer-director Leslye Headland (FX’s Terriers) has been trying to get her film Bachelorette off the ground for years, but no one wanted to make it. After Bridesmaids became successful, then she found a studio that gave her money to make her movie.

Now, there are some similarities this one has to Bridesmaids. It has a wedding in it. Other than that, the two films look to have a completely different tone and goal. Bridesmaids was about Kristen Wiig’s character figuring out who she is, while Bachelorette is about a group of women together. It does look quite funny, and the cast is pretty damn talented. Lizzy Caplan, Isla Fisher and Rebel Wilson are pros at comedy while Kirsten Dunst is a talented actress, despite what you may have heard.

The film hits VOD channels like iTunes on August 10 and expands to theaters September 7. [via Movies.com]
