5 reasons to buy Jaws on Blu Ray
It’s August 14! You know what that means? JAWS is out on Blu Ray! So what better way to celebrate than an awesome list. I mean, you may be wondering “why the hell would I buy Jaws on Blu Ray? I got it on DVD and that works fine.” OR “I bought it on VOD and ehh.” OR “I don’t have a Blu Ray player.”
One of those is an acceptable excuse, and it’s not the first two. So, without further ado – here are the reasons you should buy Jaws on Blu Ray TODAY.
Fully remastered and restoredWhat they did is they went back to the original 35mm theatrical version of the film and restored those elements to bring the quality to your HDTV and Blu Ray player. Basically, it looks absolutely glorious and marvelous and it makes baby kittens weep with joy. This is going to be the best way to Jaws other than hopping in a DeLorean and blasting back to 1975.
It’s $20Well, at least on Amazon. Most Blu Rays go for $30. But you get a brand new Blu Ray edition of Jaws for $20. What more do you want? Special features? Check. Awesome movie? Check. Think about it this way. Millions of people buy Twilight on Blu Ray for $30. You’re buying a legendary movie for 2/3 the price.
Jaws: The RestorationOnce you stop fawning over how glorious Jaws looks on Blu Ray and burn through it 25 times you can take a look at the documentary that shows how the hell they brought it up to Blu Ray quality. This is an all-new feature that’s made specifically for the Blu Ray edition of the movie. If you’re a Jaws lover, or just want to see how things work then there you go.
The Making of JawsYou got the standard feature-length documentary about how the filmmakers made the film. These are almost standard now on huge movies. And there’s a lot of information here about how/why they made the film. Did you know the actual making of the movie was a tense and chaotic process? Spielberg went over budget, the shark kept breaking and a ton more is in this doc.
The Shark is Still WorkingThe most exciting addition to the Blu Ray is this all-new feature length documentary about the legacy and impact of Jaws. It scared the crap out of everyone and changed the movie release schedule. It’s the first blockbuster, and without it you wouldn’t have summers where you can watch both The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises.
IT’S JAWSThis is a catch-all, but it couldn’t be more true. One of the greatest films ever and the first blockbuster and you’re going to pass it up? Come on now. It’s not only that movie you love that keeps you out of the water, but it’s in the best quality you’ve ever seen (unless you went to a theater in 1975) and it’s packed with at least 6 hours of extra content. All for $20. Sounds like a bargain to me.
