Oh man. Sure, The Force is one of the greatest things to happen in science fiction in a long time. It’s easily crossed over into popular culture. And there’s a whole belief system behind the light and dark sides of The Force, but … come on.

15,000 people have officially listed Knights of the Jedi as their religion in the Czech Republic. Now, the key here may be that Czech’s statistics office actually listed that as a religion on the form.

“We included this option (in the census form) despite a fierce debate over whether it’s serious or not. But it’s not up to the statisticians to say what is or is not a religion,” said a spokesman for the office.

People saw the option and chose it. I’m sure most of the people thought it would be fun to do. Like, “oh haha I’m a JEDI DOOD!”

The office doesn’t seem to think so though. ”Many people adhered to the moral values of Jedi knights from the Star Wars saga,” the representatives of the office said in a statement.
